We need to work on

For anyone that wants to help here is a list of stuff that needs to be done :

  • Import useful templates (and files)
  • Create main page (maybe wait for Meta first)
  • Develop policies
  • Fix request template (permission)
  • Backup

Please add anything that you think is relevant to the list.--Reception123 (talk) 02:12, 8 August 2015 (EDT)

Proposal for NDKilla as consul

This is mostly for logging the request, as you know NDKilla is a trusted member of the community (there currently isn't one) and therefore I think he should have consul. --Reception123 (talk) 15:00, 23 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, as it seems that not everyone likes MediaWiki:Common.css we should have a vote to keep it. --Reception123 (talk) 08:57, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I currently oppose the colored usernames for more reasons. First, we would have to add them to all users. Second, not everyone wants them. Third, who would have colored usernames? Bureaucrats? Consuls? Reception123 (talk) 08:57, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Vote to remove them. :-p Revi (talk) 10:36, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As for two Oppose, I removed the coloured usernames. --TheTVFan (talk) 10:49, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New comment on MediaWiki:Common.css

Currently editing the interface page to test making my name (and mine alone) red, but also trying to get links to other pages working (my talk page etc). Any sysop who feels this is disruptive is welcome to delete the page. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 17:44, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think that it is every user's choice if they want to change their name color. Everyone is free to edit their own name. Reception123 (talk) 18:08, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Becoming a Consul member [Closed]

Hello there, I would like to become a Consul member, because as a result, I would be able to help in more important things, for example, Miraheze is getting stronger and larger, so People would start being active on the test wiki, starting as sysops, and then bureaucrats, And it will be likely if I could help about it. SleepyMode (talk) 12:53, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Weakly support If TestWiki was already more active I'd be more likely to support. I like the fact that you're a sysop and bureaucrat, but a lot of people from Miraheze haven't been coming to TestWiki. Really, there are currently only two users you could demote as consul, and the group offers no other real permissions. Also, you promoted User:Lemondoge to bureaucrat, when I didn't see anything right away to make them seem trustworthy, and they also didn't provide a confirmation edit/diff on wikipedia to prove that's them. (It probably is, and they're probably the same user on thetestwiki.org too ;p) -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 13:29, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Weakly support As per what NDKilla said I really don't think there is a need for another consul, seeing that there is not a lot of community here. If the community will grow and there will be a real need then you can re-request. Reception123 (talk) 18:41, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bot policy

Per TestWiki:Bots and TestWiki:Bot approval requests‎, I've gone ahead and pushed a configuration change. Effective immediately, Bureaucrats may no longer assign the bot flag. For now, all bot requests must be made directly through a Consul. Operating a bot without the bot flag (or contacting us asking for authorization to test the bot without the flag) will be grounds for an immediate, indefinite block against the bot, and possible sanctions against the bot operator.

I apologize for what I'm well aware are harsh measures, but bot's (even without flag/permission) can cause a lot of damage quickly, that even with certain tools, can be hard to undo. A more in depth bot policy will be created in the near future.

In general:

  • NEVER GIVE THE BOT FLAG TO AN ACCOUNT YOU HAVE ACCESS TO, OR AN ACCOUNT USED BY A BOT YOU OPERATE This will be grounds for removal of your permissions (up to discretion of Consuls)
  • Never operate a bot without authorization
    • For testing a bot, this involves asking a Consul directly for permission to run the bot without the flag
    • For tested, working bots, this involves acquiring the bot flags via appropriate means
  • Try to document what the bot does, how it works, etc
    • Although you are free to use a bot for whatever reasons, and you may test whatever on this wiki:
      • Consuls, Stewards, and System Administrator's may request source code for your bot. IT MUST BE PROVIDED UPON A VALID REQUEST
      • Additionally, even if source code isn't requested, you are required to make a public note about the bots tasks. This will allow users who wish to do so the ability to monitor your bot and make sure it is not malfunctioning
      • Bots are recommended but not required to have their "power" based on an on-wiki page. This page, if needed, can be protected to logged in users, autoconfirmed, sysop, crat, or consul only.
      • Bots failing to abide by on-wiki toggle switches may be indefinitely blocked at any hint of malfunction or operation outside of authorized scope

Why is there no gadgets section in my preferences? Ipadguy (talk) 13:33, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ipadguy: Because the testwiki has no gadgets yet. Feel free to add some (you can copy them from wikipedia, Mediawiki:Gadget-etc.) Reception123 (talk) 14:03, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
But this one and this one already exsist. Ipadguy (talk) 14:59, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot I installed those. I think gadgets did work sometime. I'll look into it. Reception123 (talk) 15:05, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ipadguy: A vandal deleted the page that made them work, gadgets now work again. Reception123 (talk) 15:38, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As you may know, VisualEditor has been added to Meta. I am not sure if it is wanted on TestWiki. Please vote below. Reception123 (talk) 18:51, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Consul Nomination(SleepyMode)

  1. Support I'm support, If you to help and active in all wikitest poject. AYST201 (talk) 07:36, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Strongly oppose for a few reasons. I really have several major concerns about this user, but most prominantly are the following:
    • No need for another Consul, crat's are fine to demote obvious vandals, most vandals don't get crat.
    • This user's activity on this wiki, and on Miraheze in general.
    • This user's previous attitude towards other users and wikis in relation to abuse of powers, namecalling, random demotions, and hat collecting.
    • This user's recent block (on another wiki) that appeared to have blatant lies in several different block reasons, along with (what I would call) misuse of block permissions (even though there's no blocking policy there).
    • -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 22:51, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I think SleepyMode's work is really good, but I don't think we are in need of more than 2 consuls. Reception123 (talk) 12:55, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Prevent recent events from happening again

Good morning,
I would like to talk about the recent events and how we can prevent them from happening again, I am some of you are familiar with the recent administrator rights abuse,
I don't want to talk about it for long, so I will simply say that people are randomly protecting, and blocking, making bad edits and never reverting after them, and that should be fixed.
I think we should make a new group called "Test Administrator", which will only be able to block itself, not edit admin-protected pages, but test admin protected pages only, and basically get most of the admin permissions removed and only a few given to them, so no or minimal damage can be made.

SleepyMode (talk) 08:44, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

  1. Oppose This isn't a bad idea, but I don't think we need it right now, as there is not much vandalism, and it can easily be prevented by any other users. If there is a lot of vandalism on this wiki, then I think we should consider this option. Reception123 (talk) 08:53, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose Cyborg (talk) 20:24, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose This is a good suggestion, but we haven't really had a lot of vandals recently, and when they do come they're easily dealt with by bureaucrats. Omni Flames (talk) 08:20, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gadget description

I noticed the gadget description on MediaWiki:Gadget-UTCLiveClock includes the text "After adding please en:purge the page" and was wondering what the point of it is. After all, the page already says that the tool includes a purge link. wikipedia:en:purge (apparent intended target) is no help either. ping @Reception123: who added it. -- Void Discuss 20:43, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

.........Already changed by Gyakusyuu no Amanojaku.--Tiger (talk) 07:31, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Bit of advice, don't change the logo by css. I'll upload a new version of the File:NewLogo.png, and, if needed, do a pull request to change the logo. -- Void Whispers 01:14, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Are bureaucrats allowed to grant administrator right?

I found that bureaucrats are able to grant administrator right to other users technically. Are bureaucrats allowed to grant administrator right when other users request it on TestWiki:Request_permissions? Are they allowed to revoke the right when it is inappropriately used?--Tiger (talk) 14:51, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrats are allowed to grant sysop and bureaucrat, and can revoke sysop. If you are granting admin/bureaucrat, just make sure that the request fulfills the requirements at the top of the page. If in doubt, let someone else handle it. -- Void Whispers 15:06, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

RFC: Puffin Web Browser global blocks

As some may know, the entire Puffin Web Browser has been globally blocked on Miraheze through 4 or 5 separate rangeblocks due to suspected and in some cases confirmed abuse. However, this massive block(s) have the serious potential to cause collateral damage. I have locally blocked the same ranges specifically here, anon. only and with account creation allowed. I would like to propose the following:

"Immediately following the closure of this RFC, all global blocks on Puffin Web Browser IP addresses are to be locally disabled. The local blocks made by Primeferac shall be left as is for the time being, but any admin has permission to harden the blocks if obvious abuse occurs."

I personally use Puffin when accessing the Internet from unsecure locations like restaurants and public transportation, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Therefore, I would like to help reduce the potential for collateral damage, which is never a good thing. Primeferac (talk) 00:30, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Userrights update

Just an FYI in a visible place.

  • After a bug was resolved in the config, sysops now have the ability to add Autopatrolled, confirmed, and rollbacker to accounts.
  • 'Crats may now assign the bot usergroup. However, please be aware to only assign the group for testing or to prevent flood, never run a full bot account without consul permission.
  • The exampleuser usergroup will be removed as the only accounts it was assigned to were locked for security concerns. It is no longer useful.

If I'm forgetting anything, remind me. If you have any questions, ask below. Cheers -- Void Whispers 21:19, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think we can set a special usergroup like "flood" on Chinese Wikipedia (can be added by admins and only to admins themselves) to divide test groups from non-test groups. However, I don't think it's necessary because there are no real bots now. --Amanojaku (talk) 13:58, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

AlvaroMolina for consul

AlvaroMolina is a trusted user on other wikis including miraheze test wiki (spanish edition) and the test wiki @ https://testwiki.wiki/ . If these users are the same person I hereby propose that the user AlvaroMolina be granted consul to bring the amount of consuls to 4 (1 user makes an action and the other 3 can review it/take action about the first action) which is good for confirming actions made by consuls. He is also very active and can efficiently deal with issues.

Temporary feature

Hi, yesterday I used the temporary feature on Special:Userrights and I'm wondering if that feature was created by Miraheze or it comes with MediaWiki. Thank you, Cyborg (talk) 20:52, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Able to change protection levels

Even though deletion and move rights are consul only, I am able to change them. Why? PokestarFan (talk) 19:35, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because the protect action is not restricted. As a result, unless we decide to modify the configuration, the only way to prevent the modification of protection levels is to remove edit access as well. It would make sense if the software only allowed users to modify protection levels if they had the ability to perform the action with its current restriction level. (eg that an admin would not be able to modify consul level move/deletion restrictions). But, this is not the case. -- Void Whispers 19:45, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
