Olipino (Interface Administrator)

Olipino (talk) 13:16, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

I can’t grant these permissions because bureaucrats can’t grant this, but usually interface administrator permissions are not a test right. Dmehus, renovating, if I'm wrong (thanks)? Currently, this wiki has two interface admins: me and another. I think two is enough interface admin, because at the moment this wiki is also with the technical side all very well. This was not an official decision, but my opinion. Thank you. --Anton (talk) 14:01, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Olipino There is no specific number of interface administrators, so I would certainly consider granting this user group with a demonstrated need. However, you say your reason is to "help manage system messages." This doesn't need interface administrator permissions, as any sysop with the editinterface user right is able to edit MediaWiki system messages in MediaWiki: namespace. Dmehus (talk) 14:24, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus, please proceed to what you think should be done here. I would like to edit JavaScript or CSS interface files if there is the need. You may be informed that I requested an edit on a js file because I thought there was a need to edit but the conclusion was something different. – Olipino (talk) 14:40, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. This is a bit better, but can you elaborate on the type of editing you wish to make to existing gadgets, which gadget(s) you wish to focus on, or which gadget(s) you think could be useful for TestWiki? Dmehus (talk) 14:43, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus, I need to be careful to edit those files because those affect all users rather than only one user (the performer). I will focus on discussion gadgets because they seem to be very useful while discussing something. I'd like to make a gadget similar w:User:Enterprisey/reply-link.js on enwiki. But for editing it, I will (probably) require interface-admin bit. – Olipino (talk) 15:02, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
That one in particular was the predecessor to the DiscussionTools extension, so may not be needed here. Dmehus (talk) 15:12, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
I've  enabled the DiscussionTools extension on this page, per your request. Dmehus (talk) 15:16, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus, thank you for enabling it. What about giving the interface admin bit to my account? -- Jusl¡t (talk) 15:25, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Theory of Eternity, I think it is too early for us to grant the flag. You should follow the advice given by Dmehus and reapply after a while (probably months later). -- Jusl¡t (talk) 19:26, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Olipino (Interface Administrator)

-- Jusl¡t (talk) 06:21, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Why do we need it? I think you should copy that code first to your own common.js page. There is almost no vandalism on this wiki for which that script is intended. --Anton (talk) 06:42, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Anton, that script will not only help to revert vandalism. It will restore any version that is archived in the page history. Take the example of your own sandbox/test page (if you have), only you make edits on that page and you cannot use rollback on that page. In that circumstances, this tool will help to restore any version of the page. -- Jusl¡t (talk) 06:56, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I know what is Restorer. I can make Restorer to Gadgets, if you want. But I don't know why. --Anton (talk) 07:04, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Anton, wait! Don't make. Let me do it if I will be granted the bit. -- Jusl¡t (talk) 07:15, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Lava Spire Can you tell me how you found TestWiki, or who referred you to us? Is there any particular aspect you are keen to test? Dmehus (talk) 22:13, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
I found this through a Google search for "test wikis" because I was wanting to test things admins can do on wikis like protecting pages, translating pages and blocking users. Lava Spire (talk) 22:15, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
Lava Spire Alright. I'm going to grant you sysop rights only for now. Should you wish to test bureaucrat rights, you may apply for that and any Consul only may grant that in there discussion. To make granting bureaucrat more likely, please ensure you create, and delete, a sufficient number of test pages with actual text and messages in the body of the pages, reverting your test page creations in the reverse order performed, of course. Alternatively, if you have an existing Wikimedia account in existence for the past several months, please feel free to create a confirmation edit on a Wikimedia wiki stating your account name on Miraheze. • Status:  Done by Brewster239
  • User: Turtle84375 ( talk · contribs · deleted · logs · rights · CentralAuth )
  • Requested group/permission: Admin
  • Reason for requesting: To test further privileges with the Flow and WikiForum extensions. Additionally, I would like to test the capabilities of the Translations feature as an Admin. Administrator is also a prerequisite for the Bureaucrat role, and while I have no real need for 'crat at the moment, Admin experience could prove handy if I ever needed the higher permission, not just here but on other wikis as well.

Thank you :) Turtle84375 (talk) 08:28, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm not protesting this, but I just want to say that you can test the translation, Flow and Forum extensions without administrator rights. --Anton (talk) 08:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Well, it's hard to know what Turtle84375 was looking to test, but most likely, they were looking to test certain Flow and WikiForum functions that are only available to the sysop group. Also, we have to remember that this is a TestWiki and sysop is essentially akin to user whereas bureaucrat is akin to autoconfirmed users who are trustworthy. (Credit to Naleksuh for the apt analogy.) Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:27, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
@Anton and Dmehus: Sorry for seeing this late, yes, I essentially requested Administrator permissions to gain access to certain functions on WikiForum, such as forum creation and finding out what different functions Admins have in the extension, and also to see whether Flow would be good for me to install into one of my wikis, hence the need for me to fully inspect the function of the extension. As for translation, I was looking to see what "Mark for translation" does. I apologize if that wasn't too clear. Turtle84375 (talk) 03:14, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

ロープTA (Bureaucrat)

ロープTA (talk) 15:33, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

ロープTA Do you mean enabling extensions? Only Consuls on TestWiki can enable extensions, but it's not a problem for you to still request bureaucrat or, preferably start with, sysop, and request any Consul enable an extension for you. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 15:41, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
Okey Thank you! ロープTA (talk) 03:36, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: Should this request be closed in lieu of a new request by @ロープTA:, or should they edit this request if they wish for Bureaucrat or Administrator permissions? Turtle84375 (talk) 23:39, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
We probably could. I usually try and wait at least three to five days before closing as stale. ロープTA, did you still want test sysop and/or bureaucrat permissions? I'm willing to waive the usual 24 hours and 10 edit requirement for the latter, as a Consul discretionary action, if desired. Dmehus (talk) 23:46, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Melba Merrystar (Admin)

Melba Merrystar (talk) 22:34, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Melba Merrystar Are you Bugambilia? I strongly advise you to consider your response carefully. If you are not upfront with me now, I'd be inclined to classify you as long-term abuse, making an appeal in 3-6 months, if ever, quite unlikely. Dmehus (talk) 22:37, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
I am not Bugambilia or anyone else. I found this wiki from a Google search for test wiki's. Melba Merrystar (talk) 22:39, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Your username and response suggest otherwise. Accordingly, this is not done unless you can confirm your Miraheze account from an account in good standing on a Wikimedia wiki. Dmehus (talk) 22:40, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
I do have a Wikipedia account with the same name but haven't used it yet. Will that be sufficient? Melba Merrystar (talk) 22:44, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
I mean, Melba Merrystar was just created on 9 May 2021. I'd suggest you make a few edits with your Melba Merrystar account on English Wikipedia, but do be mindful not to evade any local blocks from prior accounts you may or may not have had, then we'll reevaluate things in a week or two. • Reason for requesting: Hi I'm an admin on English, Italian and Sicilian Vikidia and I would like to have the admin tools, because Vikidia doesn't have a recent version of MediaWiki, so I can't practice some tools like the topic ban.

Note that there's no specific function for a topic ban; that's usually manually enforced with pages like this, unless you mean partial blocks, in which case, absolutely those can be used. Dmehus (talk) 19:45, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Noelle88 (Sysop)

Noelle88 (talk) 23:28, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Noelle88 Thank you for your request. Can you provide a bit more of a reason for wanting to request test sysop tools and, additionally, give us a few more details on how you found Public Test Wiki? For example, did you come from Test Wikipedia, English Wikipedia, or a similar Wikimedia wiki? If so, what's your account there? Dmehus (talk) 01:48, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
I want to try to translate pages into Spanish, protect pages and test the block function. I found this wiki while looking at people's userpages on the Meta wiki. Noelle88 (talk) 01:53, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
Noelle88 Oh, that's great. That's great to hear. We've recently been plagued by a user who creates multiple sockpuppet accounts in violation of their block, hence my reason for wanting to find out how you'd found us and your purpose. @Sowhipefy: I assume you're trying to request administrator? — Arcversin (talk) 17:46, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Sowhipefy, I have now deferred your request to a consul for taking a decision since your request doesn't mention which right you want and you haven't given any reason. Mazzaz (talk) 14:50, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
I've modified the request status to "held," as it's pending response from the applicant. If no response provided within 2-3 days, any bureaucrat can close this as "stale." In short, Consul approval is not needed here. Dmehus (talk) 14:52, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

Zocktersrat, please note that blocking others is considered a bad practice. I'd recommend you to create a new alternative account for testing blocks and alternatively you may test on User:Example. If Genderbufoongoree is your alternative account, then there are no issues. If it is not, please don't test blocks on it. Thank you! ~ Mazzaz (talk) 08:21, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
