== Requests for Comment ==

Hi everyone. Due to the recent influx of Requests for Comment here on TestWiki, I have created a separate page for them at [[TestWiki:Requests for Comment]]. I have also moved two RfCs from here to there. You are all invited to comment on them, they are [[TestWiki:Requests for Comment/Proposals]] (proposed by Naleksuh) and [[TestWiki:Requests for Comment/Amending Consul policy]] (proposed by BrandonWM). Thank you! [[User:Agent Isai|<span style="color:skyblue">'''Agent</span><span style="color:lime;" > Isai'''</span>]] [[m:User talk:Agent Isai|<span style="color:orange;">'''Talk to me!'''</span>]] 07:20, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
: First off, two is not an "influx". Second, you shouldn't have just started moving other people's comments without a discussion or at least a delay. Maybe I'll move your comment to [[Talk:Rollback test]] next? [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]])
::If it were on topic for the page and are more appropriate for there, yes, are they though? No. [[User:Agent Isai|<span style="color:skyblue">'''Agent</span><span style="color:lime;" > Isai'''</span>]] [[m:User talk:Agent Isai|<span style="color:orange;">'''Talk to me!'''</span>]] 16:32, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

:::Hello. [[User:AlPaD|Fffv7787]] and {{u|MdsShakil}}, no! Such requests should not be closed (declined) immediately. The best practice to deal with such requests is to ask which permissions they want and put the request on hold. If they didn't reply close the request as stale after the few days (preferable after 4-5 days). --[[User:Startus|Mazzaz]] ([[User talk:Startus|talk]]) 14:55, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

:[[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]], [[User:Startus|Magogre]], and [[User:MdsShakil|MdsShakil]], I thought I'd jump in to clarify the uncertainty in response to AlPa's question. Magogre's response is generally correct, but there's not a specific timeframe. It really depends. It could be two or three days, or 4-7 days, and then closed as stale, but yeah, basically (a) don't close it immediately and (b) don't close it as ''declined''; rather, use ''stale''. Hope that helps. :) [[mh:meta:User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 04:48, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

::This is a [[w:WP:AGF|good-faith and intentioned]] request for [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consul]] from a generally helpful, active, and positive [[TestWiki:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]] and [[TestWiki:Administrators|sysop]] on TestWiki, so the candidate is thanked both for their activity, continuing to help users, and for putting their name forward for consideration for Consul. There ''is'' [[w:WP:CON|consensus]] here that the candidate is generally helpful, active, and pleasant; however, as to whether there is a ''need'' for additional need for additional Consuls, given that we currently have six Consuls, five of which ''do'' hold other global roles, there's no consensus, given the workload required of Consuls, some of which is partially automated as Naleksuh notes. As well, there's not yet consensus here that the candidate is sufficiently experienced to undertake those duties. That being said, the candidate is encouraged to being active on TestWiki, and to notifying any Consuls should there be the rare occasion where they can't undertake a certain action (namely, [[Special:ManageWiki|ManageWiki]]-related actions or <code>[[TestWiki:Interface administrators|interface-admin]]</code> permissions requests). Where a user requests, and qualifies for, <code>[[TestWiki:Interwiki administrators|interwiki-admin]]</code> on TestWiki, the candidate can reach out to any of three of the Consuls to effect in their [[m:Stewards|Steward]] capacities. Hello everyone. These are some proposals I have thought about for a while, and some people also discussed off-wiki. Discuss if you agree with them or not.

=== Proposal 1: Change the domain of test wiki from publictestwiki.com to test.miraheze.org ===
Hello, I am Magogre. I have been around since the past few months translating and assigning permissions to users at [[TestWiki:Request permissions]]. I would like to request the consul rights to help out in removing the rights of the inactive admins, thereby, helping to reduce the workload of the current consuls which are stewards or sysadmins. Thank you for considering, --[[User:Startus|Magogre]] ([[User talk:Startus|talk]]) 08:03, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
Reasoning: I find custom domains to not work well and have issues, and the publictestwiki.com domain in particular is a clunky one. It also disconnects the wiki from Miraheze. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 23:07, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

*:Thank you for expressing your opinion. The edit you are referring to, was made on 14 June and it has been 3 months since then. I know this may be an early case but keeping in view the work stewards and sysadmins regularly do on meta, phab and elsewhere, I can help help to perform the consul duties on this wiki to ease their work here. --[[User:Startus|Magogre]] ([[User talk:Startus|talk]]) 16:53, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

* {{Support}} I agree there is no strong workload but it never hurts to have more volunteers. I patrol TestWiki from the shadows and Mazzaz is incredibly helpful in fulfilling rights requests and not only that, he's helpful across Miraheze globally. Currently, though we have 6 consuls, none of them are active on TestWiki (understandable, most of them occupy global roles) and I believe the addition of Mazzaz would be beneficial to the local community. For this reason, I support this request. [[User:Agent Isai|Agent Isai]] ([[User talk:Agent Isai|talk]]) 04:38, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
* {{Oppose|Weak}} While I admit I don't know Magogre, I have seen from his contributiona that he has been generally helpful on TestWiki. Nonetheless, I don't really think there's another need for a Consul at this time as the workload is manageable by the current consuls. [[User:Reception123|Reception123]] ([[User talk:Reception123|talk]]) 07:32, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
#{{Support}} I support the inversion as proposed by Naleksuh for the existing domain to prevent breakages with existing links. If the intent (as I read it from context) is no longer to maintain a stand-alone non-miraheze instance for wiki testing, we should phase out discrete domains where it isn't relevant. --[[User:NotAracham|NotAracham]] ([[User talk:NotAracham|talk]]) 03:46, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

#{{Support}} as it can work better technically (it will be recognized as a Miraheze domain by software) and also indicate that this is a Miraheze project.

# {{Oppose}} The timing of this proposal is quite unfortunate since the domain was just renewed and paid for a few days ago. I don't believe wasting money is a good idea and we've had this domain for 7.5 years now so another year wouldn't hurt. Otherwise this discussion was had at launch and it was thought that it would be more appealing to have a custom domain rather than just have "test.miraheze.org" which could appear as just being a test wiki in the sense of sysadmins testing stuff, kind of like what Beta is. Either way, if this would be done I'd suggest at least waiting till the domain expiry so the money wasn't spent for nothing. As for claims that custom domains "don't work well", I haven't encountered any issues with domains so I'm not sure where that's coming from. :The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
#: But you supported test wiki becoming an official Miraheze project. That can't happen if the domain doesn't move to Miraheze. As for paying for the domain, this is a slightly more valid issue, however, the flipside is that the domain was renewed without consensus to do so, so they essentially took a gamble on spending their own money. So, do you oppose changing the domain, or do you support it becoming a Miraheze project? It can't be both. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 18:57, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
::This has been done {{Done|[[Special:Diff/39459#Inactive Rights Removal - 2021-10-09|done]]}} by a [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consul]], so this effort, while in [[w:WP:AGF|good-faith]] albeit incorrect, from a procedural point of view, is moot. [[mh:meta:User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 22:18, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
#:: Also, the money wouldn't be "spent for nothing" because the redirect would still work but in reverse. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 18:58, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
----
#:::Regarding consensus to renew the domain, the fact that it's been renewed each year during 7 years before means that there was implicit consensus to renew it again given the community didn't initiate these proposals before. It wouldn't make sense to have to ask every year if the community agrees to renew the domain again, I'm almost certain that no other wiki with a custom domain does this. As for the official project argument, having a custom domain doesn't mean that it can't be an official project in my opinion. [[User:Reception123|Reception123]] ([[User talk:Reception123|talk]]) 17:39, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
#:::: It does, because then it's not on a Miraheze domain. I think other people pointed this out on IRC before. Imagine our list of projects being dev.miraheze.org, commons.miraheze.org, meta.miraheze.org, publictestwiki.com... what absurdity that would be. [[mh:meta:User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 00:22, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
#:# Per Reception123 is invalid per [[w:sunk cost fallacy]].
#:# It is not a solution to a problem. It is an enhancement to expand Miraheze's official projects. That's not the same as a solution.
#:# Then let's summon the Consuls to vote as well. Also, do you have a source for that?
#:[[User:Collei|Collei]] ([[User talk:Collei|talk]]) 03:15, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
#::I didn't say the expended cost on the domain was something with which I specifically agreed. The issue is that the proponent has proposed that the custom domain is a problem when it is. As Reception123 articulated, I see no reason why we should not allow officially community-sanctioned wikis to have custom domains. There's also the issue with the Betaheze wikis used for system administrator testing. Those used to be called Test 2 Wiki, Test 3 Wiki, and so forth. Their subdomains currently redirect to Betaheze, which is a problem. [[mh:meta:User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 03:21, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
#::: That's different because that's a technical limitation. You're trying to say that this should be a seperate domain by design. A Miraheze project should be on a Miraheze domain. Could you seriously imagine something like:
#:::: Here's our list of projects:
#:::: dev.miraheze.org
#:::: commons.miraheze.org
#:::: meta.miraheze.org
#:::: publictestwiki.com
#::: That's absurd. I also don't like that domain in general, and have thought it should be removed even before the official-izing, this just gives it even more of a reason. And yes, all of Reception123's points have been addressed by supporters, so opposing per those doesn't make much sense unless you have something new to say, [[:w:WP:VOTE|polling is not a substitute for discussion]]. #:What do you mean by per Reception? Reception's argument is a [[w:sunk cost fallacy|sunk cost fallacy]], you haven't explained why it's correct. [[User:Collei|Collei]] ([[User talk:Collei|talk]]) 19:43, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
#:: There are multiple issues with it, not just that. But yes, everything Reception123 has said has already been addressed by multiple people. Discussions are not votes, so "oppose per Reception123" without adding new information is not helpful. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 20:03, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
#::: In addition, many of the supports to making test wiki an official project were only done on the condition that the custom domain was removed, so to make it an official project without removing the custom domain would wrong these users. In addition, the custom domain is not controlled by Miraheze. Since it looks like there is pretty much all there is to say, consensus continues to form here and on Meta, and opposers are just going in circles I would like this request to be closed soon and the domain updated [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 20:05, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

# {{Oppose}} After having giving this a lot of thought, and weighing both oppositions and supports, I have decided to oppose this proposal. I know I previously stated on the metawiki RfC that I would be against it keeping a custom domain, if it became official, however after having carefully weighed all sides to thus argument, my opinion on the matter as slightly swayed to the point of supporting keeping the custom domain. A custom domain for the test wiki, such as the current, publictestwiki.com, helps to distinguish it from other similar wikis, such as potential SRE test wikis (even though I know we don't have any on the miraheze.org domain, others wont be so aware, and reverting to test.miraheze.org brings this possible confusion to light). This distinction gives the test wiki a unique identity and makes it stand out as a separate entity. Additionally, having a custom domain allows the test wiki to be easily recognisable and memorable, which can be especially useful for users who need to frequently access it. As for the point of where it becomes inconsistent when listing the official wikis, this is not necessarily true. It can still be advertised as an official wiki like test.miraheze.org (and [[mh:test|test]] still uses test.miraheze.org) I do not see why we would list it as an official wiki as publictestwiki.com, for all official wiki advertising of the domain, it would still be done as test.miraheze.org. This was a difficult decision to oppose, but for the reasons I have articulated, I am. [[User:Universal Omega|Universal Omega]] ([[User talk:Universal Omega|talk]]) 04:21, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
#: The issue though is that test.miraheze.org usually redirects to publictestwiki.com when a MediaWiki redirect is taking place, though if it's a valid page both links will work. Therefore, the issue would be an official wiki on the publictestwiki.com domain (which also isn't a Miraheze-controlled domain). [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 05:05, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
#:Then change the URL to something like publictesting.miraheze.org or whatever. [[User:Collei|Collei]] ([[User talk:Collei|talk]]) 06:27, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
# {{Oppose}} Originally, I wasn't going to vote on this proposal, but after looking at it and carefully considering the supporting and opposing arguments, I've decided to oppose, mainly for two reasons: 1) since the RfC on Meta to make TestWiki an official project failed on the basis of there being no "official" Miraheze projects, there is no reason to change the domain to "test.miraheze.org", which was the whole point of the proposal to remove the custom domain; 2) since the custom domain has been around for so long, it's been linked to a lot, and is even linked in one of the reasons for declining wiki requests. Removing it would leave two options: redirect it to "test.miraheze.org" and continue renewing the domain, which would not save any money, or redirect it to "test.miraheze.org" and let the custom domain expire, which would break a lot of old links and potentially risk having the custom domain being acquired and used for malicious purposes. Additionally, some users agree that the timing of this proposal was poor, since this proposal was started around the time the custom domain was renewed again, but there are arguments against that claim. # Forgive me if this was already covered but wouldn't it be possible for the domain to be placed under Board/Miraheze control, thus making it an official domain and minimizing the issue? The fact that testwiki primarily functions for the Miraheze platform is a good reason otherwise to me for making it test.miraheze.org (consistency with other satellite projects) but if we have a cool domain that people like then this would seem to be a decent compromise. --[[User:Raidarr|Raidarr]] ([[User talk:Raidarr|talk]]) 22:19, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

The majority of them are not granted for great reasons (in particular, just being a consul is not a good reason, and arguably inactivity should apply '''more''' to consuls than to sysops/bureaucrats). Hello guys, I am [[User:Matttest|Matttest]]. I have created a new proposed-for-policy page for abuse filter. In fact now there are no policies or guidelines related to the abuse filter test, and I think it’s better to create one. Currently, I think this page can be merge into the TestWiki policy [[TestWiki:Main policy]]. What do you think? Please give some suggestions for the community. You may also change this proposal page. :Though the CSS and JS script pages are sensitive from a security standpoint, I'd be willing to lower protection for the skin-specific CSS/JS pages to <code>[[TestWiki:Interface administrators|interface-admin]]</code>, on a provisional basis; however, the reasons by which [[MediaWiki:Sitenotice]], [[MediaWiki:Sidebar]], [[MediaWiki:Common.css]], and [[MediaWiki:Common.js]] are [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consul]]-protected is because these either control the sitewide CSS/JS for ''everyone'' or they relate to matters which are within the purview of the non-test bureaucrats on TestWiki, Consuls. However, <code>[[TestWiki:Interface administrators|interface-admin]]</code> is not, strictly speaking, a non-test permission. It is somewhat of a hybrid test/non-test permission. Regardless, it is nonetheless a [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consul]]-delegated role, and I'm both (a) not seeing a high volume of edit requests that Consuls cannot handle for these pages and (b) given the widespread end user impacts [[MediaWiki:Common.css]], and [[MediaWiki:Common.js]] can have, I'm inclined to defer to the pre-existing Consul practice of maintaining these at Consul protection. :::::Well, the group ''was'' deleted before, but I ''can'' see a valid reasons for non-Consuls to be able to perform gadget maintenance, upgrades, and various other tasks on TestWiki. I ''can'' also see a weaker case for it being used for testing changes before deploying to a non-TestWiki Miraheze wiki or another wiki. The idea is that it can be used for both testing and non-testing purposes, but rather than the permission being ''granted'' by any [[TestWiki:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]], which any user can request, ''in theory'' if not ''in practice'', after they have made at least ten (10) editing contributions and had an account for at least four (4) days, it was felt that was too weak of a granting criteria. #::: [edit conflict] Actually, I thought about it and I'm not sure that's so silly after all. It's avoiding the repeat of the reCAPTCHA problem. People couldn't settle on a replacement for reCAPTCHA, and one SRE member took that as evidence that everyone was fine with reCAPTCHA, even though many people had spoken out with problems about it and made it clear that some sort of change should happen. People also opposed hCaptcha for having the same problem as reCAPTCHA, which that user was trying to claim didn't exist. So, it's not a bad idea to have a discussion of this, just to see if people would like a change. If there was a new logo, people might oppose just because "I would like a change but not to that". So, this tells us if people want a change, or not. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 05:30, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

== Minor [[Special:Diff/41280|amendment]] to the [[TestWiki:Inactivity]] policy ==

I've made the following [[Special:Diff/41280|minor amendment]] to the [[TestWiki:Inactivity]] policy, mainly due to the way in which the <code>[[User:Void/findInactiveSysops.js|findInactiveSysops.js]]</code> script works. Unfortunately, it is not able to consider [[mw:Extension:StructuredDiscussions|StructuredDiscussions]] activity, or is it able to consider edits which are subsequently deleted by another [[TestWiki:Administrators|administrator]]. Views from the community are welcome on this, but ''do'' note that the alternative would be to revert to determining inactivity based on [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consul]] discretion, rather than a semi-automated activity based process. [[mh:meta:User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 23:51, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
:It's possible to take into account deleted edits by updating the script to make use of [[mw:API:Alldeletedrevisions]], and it should also be possible to take into account StructuredDiscussions activity via parsing the HTML of [[Special:Contributions]]/[[Special:DeletedContributions]] as a final check. —&nbsp;<span style="font-variant: small-caps">[[User:Chrs|Arcversin]] ([[User talk:Chrs|talk]])</span> 01:04, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
::[[User:Chrs|Arcversin]], yeah, [[User:Void|Void]] said on [[m:IRC|IRC]] he figured he'd be able to correct the deleted contributions issue, but hadn't yet found a way to resolve the StructuredDiscussions issue. If you have a way of correcting the latter, I'm sure we could probably temporarily lower protection on [[User:Void/findInactiveSysops.js]] for you. [[mh:meta:User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 01:32, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
:::What can be done is directly requesting [[Special:Contributions]] and [[Special:DeletedContributions]] without using the API so that the Structured Discussions contributions are added, then looking over that in the script to check if the last contribution by the user was via Structured Discussions, and if so, check the timestamp. This should get everything except deleted topics. —&nbsp;<span style="font-variant: small-caps">[[User:Chrs|Arcversin]] ([[User talk:Chrs|talk]])</span> 02:04, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
::::That's not a bad idea, but it's much harder to implement than it sounds, especially considering the likelihood that this would not be consistent for all users. Instead, I have the much more interesting idea of having the API parse <code><nowiki>{{Special:Contributions/<username>}}</nowiki></code>. This, when combined with a few specific options should produce consistent results for all users, provided I can figure out an accurate method for parsing out the timestamp. <span style="text-shadow:7px 5px 7px grey;font-family:High Tower Text">-- [[User:Void|<span style="color:#123524">Void</span>]] [[User talk:Void|<span style="color:#353839">''Whispers''</span>]]</span> 03:30, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

:[[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]], thank you for noting this. I'm not sure what the story is here, as it was from something like five years ago, but if I had to logically ''guess'' from [[Special:CentralAuth/WikiHow Contributor|WikiHow Contributor]]'s [[Special:Contributions/WikiHow Contributor|local TestWiki contributions]], this was likely their sockpuppet, ''except'' they didn't ever ''use'' it on TestWiki, so no local account was created. Given that an user page ''was'' created, though, I've {{Done|[[Special:Redirect/logid/22630|done]]}} this for you. I actually contemplating giving this account a courtesy global rename, but on the other hand, doing so could allow the username to be recreated on a wiki where a local bureaucrat has the user right to override the [[m:Title blacklist|title blacklist]], so likely will leave as is. I'm not sure what point there is to keeping the user page on TestWiki, though. So, if you want to delete it, that'd be fine, but ''do'' remove the page protection first before doing so. Thanks. Hello all,

== [[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]] for Consul ==
I'm left with bringing this to the community as it's been actioned by Consuls only on various occasions and the current status is not doing us much good.

Hello Public Test Wiki Community! I am here today to nominate a highly qualified user, AlPaD, for consulship. Not only are they one of the most active users on the wiki, but they are extremely helpful in granting permissions and conversing with newer users on their talk page. Above all, they are always very kind and respectful to other users. There is also a desperate need for another consul. Most of our consuls haven't edited in at least a month, some many months. Zppix is the only one who has, and one user can't run a wiki of this size alone. That's where AlPaD comes in, so I hope you will join my in supporting AlPaD for consul. [[User:Globe|Globe]] ([[User talk:Globe|talk]]) 15:37, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
Apex was unlocked and had their ban removed on TestWiki by {{User|Dmehus}} and was given a very generous chance by myself to allow them to quickly get to testing.
:''Candidate, please indicate your acceptance here:''I accepted, many thanks {{Ping|Globe}}. [[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]] ([[User talk:AlPaD|talk]]) 15:45, 27 June 2023 (UTC)

=== Questions: ===
Since then, Apex has ignored every piece of advice & restriction put in place. Today, they moved to posting comments with swear words to avoid getting caught by the abuse filter supposed to be their to give guidance which has numerous hits showing them breaking policy.

Apex has been blocked & unblocked since the unlock on numerous occasions with the most recent being removed by Doug way before expiry.

I am therefore asking the community to present their opinion on Apex's sanctions and proposing an indefinite community ban as I do not believe simply adding restrictions for every time something inappropriate is done will be sustainable.

As a community ban, it would only be appealable via a community discussion where consensus was reached.

Thanks, [[User:RhinosF1|RhinosF1]] ([[User talk:RhinosF1|talk]]) 09:04, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

=== Reply from ApexAgunomu ===
I am honestly surprised to see this proposal since I honestly was trying to make good edits earlier today, and while I realize it has 100% support for going through, I would be very grateful if I could have one last chance to test here and show that I can obey the rules here. I thought that since my disruptive actions were being stopped by the filter, there was no harm if I "slipped up". But I see that I need to show that I have actually changed my behavior, by not setting off the filter in the first place.

Here are my proposals to remedy this situation.

#Modify the filter to only allow userspace edits (for however long is necessary)
#Restriction from requesting admin or bureaucrat for whatever time
#A clear understanding that attempts to edit around the filter or triggering the filter will result in the ban being placed.

If this proposal is accepted, I will abide by these restrictions and understand very clearly that this is my last chance to test on this wiki. :I chose to request a community ban as there has been disagreements among both consuls and involved community members as to what sanctions are appropriate. A community endorsed sanction. ==== Reverted Closure ====
While "community bans" on TestWiki ''may'' have been done in the past, they are not supported by [[TestWiki:Policies|official policy]]. [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consuls]] ''can'' seek the TestWiki community's input, of course, on a non-binding and advisory basis. Likewise, the same is true for Consuls seeking input on an unblock. The reason for this is because this is two-fold. For one thing, TestWiki, save for its Consuls and a handful of users, is a dynamic community that has high turnover. For another, it provides all users with proper due process, ensuring that Consuls, as the non-test administrators on this wiki, balance the community's frustrations with due process whilst ensuring local control. In other words, a wiki that did not have appropriate due process processes in place may well give rise to the user having standing for a complaint under the [[m:Code of Conduct|a global process]] [[m:Stewards|Stewards]] took over from the former [[m:Code of Conduct/Commission|Code of Conduct Commission]]. In terms of this proposal, it is also noteworthy that RhinosF1 has seemingly been left with no other apparent option, despite [[Special:AbuseFilter/history/60|not making a single attempt]] to modify and add to the abuse filter [[User:Chrs|Chrs]] created. It also noteworthy that no other [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consul]] has supported this proposal. Likewise, perhaps the strongest arguments come from [[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]] and [[User:Universal Omega|Universal Omega]], which are more supportive of a Consul blocking the user indefinitely than for any sort of ''ban'', which, as mentioned, does not exist in [[TestWiki:Policies|official policy]]. Secondarily, RhinosF1 has not proposed any other alternate proposal, and has almost seemingly held a grudge against ApexAgunomu (nee Bugambilia) since day one. This is evidenced by him ignoring ApexAgunomu's alternate proposal. Finally, because of this lack of due of process and alternate proposals, I will initiate a community discussion, on a non-binding and advisory basis that proposes several options and invites discussion on a fourth unforeseen option. [[mh:meta:User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 04:49, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
:I have been asked to review this in Steward capacity and having looked at it in some detail, I have made the decision to revert this closure on two grounds;
:# It does not clearly take into account the community's expressed wishes so far,
:# It is a non-sensical closure in favour to promote another vote where the tide of voting seems more leading to a certain resolution in response and contrary to the existing discussion.
:I will respond to the closure line by line to explain my neutral stance on it and why I believe Steward intervention here was appropriate.
:"While "community bans" on TestWiki ''may'' have been done in the past, they are not supported by [[TestWiki:Policies|official policy]]."
:: I concur there is no policy in place, however written under the [[TestWiki:Main policy|main policy]] is: "And for the rest, just use common sense!", which to me means a community discussion about actions should be respected - this is backed up globally in that Stewards have a main responsibility to ensure community consensus is respected, except where policy explicitly prohibits certain actions. I can not see any policy locally or globally which prevents community bans - therefore the discussion surrounding one should be allowed unless the local community have explicitly voted that community bans shouldn't be used or discussed.
:"[[TestWiki:Consuls|Consuls]] ''can'' seek the TestWiki community's input, of course, on a non-binding and advisory basis."
:: This discussion sounds like it is doing this, as the prose reads, "I am therefore asking the community to present their opinion on Apex's sanctions and proposing an indefinite community ban".
:"In other words, a wiki that did not have appropriate due process processes in place may well give rise to the user having standing for a complaint"
::This is indeed true - however a community discussion in the absence of due process sounds like something you can dispute with? Afterall, if the community voted to introduce a ban policy, and then banned them - this would still be dependent on community consensus and would likely end in the same way. One could argue ignoring and preventing community discussion being had could be cause for a complaint under global processes - one which has lead to this decision being reviewed externally and neutrally by myself in my Steward capacity.
:"It also noteworthy that no other [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consul]] has supported this proposal."
::Can you link me to the relevant policy that states a Consul must approve all community discussions taking place?
:"Likewise, perhaps the strongest arguments come from [[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]] and [[User:Universal Omega|Universal Omega]], which are more supportive of a Consul blocking the user indefinitely than for any sort of ''ban''"
::They both supported the ban in this discussion, and neither strongly provided an argument for a limited block over a ban - in fact Universal Omega made no distinction in his comment for either - AlPaD did make a distinction that sounds more like a block than a ban, but didn't make any strong argument for a block over a ban.
:"RhinosF1 has not proposed any other alternate proposal"
::I don't feel in a discussion about whether to ban a user, another alternative is required - either the community support a ban or do not support a ban.
:"I will initiate a community discussion"
:: You are free to, however, you can not close an active discussion against the consensus that has formed on it just because you do not like the consensus starting to form on it because it does not fall in line with your idea of a "perfect resolution".
:Based on all of this above, I have made the decision based on numerous requests by local testwiki users to intervene and revert this closure to allow the community to discuss the proposal. This can be re-closed based on either consensus or a procedural manner (policy prevents this discussion, the requesting users withdraws it fully, etc.). [[User:John|John]] ([[User talk:John|talk]]) 18:28, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
::Also just reviewing the discussion below, one of the main reasons for the closing this discussion was that a community ban is not grounded in policy - yet below in your proposals, you propose a 2 way interaction ban. Could you enlighten me on the policy that gives rise to this? [[User:John|John]] ([[User talk:John|talk]]) 18:46, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

=== Closure Request ===

I apologize if I'm not supposed to do this, but I'd rather not have this discussion be dragged out for days on end. And while I really don't want to be banned, it seems unavoidable. So seeing as this discussion has been been open for three days and a clear consensus has been reached, I would ask that both discussions here about me be closed and the agreed-upon remedy be enacted (as much as I don't like it), so we can all move on past this whole thing. RhinosF1 initiated a ''community ban'' proposal re: [[User:ApexAgunomu|ApexAgunomu]] the other day. Granted, in the past, community "bans" ''may'' have taken place, they are, not, however, supported by [[TestWiki:Policies|official policy]]. [[User:Reception123|Reception123]], as one of two TestWiki co-founding Consuls (alongside NDKilla), and I are wanting to retain TestWiki's spirit of [[w:WP:AGF|assuming good faith]], having only a [[TestWiki:Policies|a very few official rules]].

Hey @[[User:Dmehus|Dmehus]], closure of a Consul election in just under a week with no input from anyone beyond the original nominator seems a bit... unorthodox. I only just happened to see the request today, in fact.
The excellent [[Special:AbuseFilter/60|abuse filter]] [[User:Chrs|Chrs]] created, at my request and having had the support of [[User:Reception123|Reception123]] and [[User:Agent Isai|Agent Isai]], seems to be, for the most part, doing its job. If RhinosF1 is bothered by seeing abuse log hits in the [[libera:#miraheze-feed-test|#miraheze-feed-test]] on [[m:IRC|IRC]], he can easily instruct StreamBotMH to !ignore <code>ApexAgunomu</code> in the channel. Or, alternatively, he can add the <code>[[TestWiki:Flooders|flood]]</code> to ApexAgunomu. Crucially, though, as I and [[User:Reception123|Reception123]] have said elsewhere, any <code>[[TestWiki:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]]</code> can feel free to tweak the abuse filter in question, to catch anything we've not yet identified.

Admittedly I'm not the closest follower of testwiki history, but looking through archives I can't find any other example of comparably brisk/limited input handling for advanced rights aside from speedy closures due to unanimous opposition.
Secondarily, as RhinosF1 has not demonstrated a [[w:WP:AGF|good-faith and -intentioned]] effort to propose alternative solutions for discussion, on a non-binding and advisory basis, of course, he has not met the high burden such a block would need. Likewise, he has similarly ignored ApexAgunomu's offering of other alternate solutions.

Is there a particular policy/precedent you're using in making this close?
[[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]] and likely [[User:HeartsDo|HeartsDo]]'s comments above show frustration, but ''do'' show that willingness to accept good-faith and to being amenable to alternative solutions. Thus, taking that all into account, I'm proposing the following proposals, each with support sections. Oppose sections are unnecessary, as each proposal would be mutually exclusive of each other, and [[TestWiki:Consuls|Consuls]] would take both the ''number'' of support !votes ''and'' the ''quality'' and ''strength'' of any arguments into consideration in effecting any outcome. === Proposal 1: Status quo + extension of abuse filter restrictions ===
ApexAgunomu is subject to the [[Special:AbuseFilter/60|strict abuse filter]] restrictions, originally slated to lapse this week, for an additional thirty days. Consuls will consider the ''severity'' and ''number'' of hits after thirty days in determining whether there has been sufficient improvement to warrant easing or removal of the abuse filter restrictions. Any <code>[[TestWiki:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]]</code> may add to the abuse filter where ApexAgunomu is getting through the abuse filter.

hi, i've been noticing that not all extensions are enabled and wiki forum is linked on the sidebar but the special page doesn't exist because the extension is disabled.
=== Proposal 2: Proposal 1 + !ignore ApexAgunomu on [[m:IRC|IRC]] ===
may i request all extensions to be enabled? how much this affects the wiki load? i've also noticed that [[Special:MathStatus]] is giving a timeout (503), can anything be done about that? [[User:Juest|Juest]] ([[User talk:Juest|talk]]) 16:37, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

:*:Hello and thank you for your reply, sorry for my mistake, I started new inactive rights removal. [[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]] ([[User talk:AlPaD|talk]]) 19:00, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
'''Rationale:''' The abuse filter ''may'' have become untenable and the user's [[w:WP:AGF|good-faith]] repeated abuse filter hits are continue to demonstrate that they're not making progress required to restore [[TestWiki:Administrators|sysop]] and [[TestWiki:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]]. That being said, the user is making ''very good'' reports on [[m:IRC|IRC]] to the [[m:Counter Vandalism Team|CVT]] team and to Stewards on [https://testwiki.wiki/ Test Wiki], which ''has'' to be taken into consideration. As such, if they can go thirty (30) calendar days from imposition of the block, that alone [[rfc:2119|''should'']] demonstrate enough capacity to warrant disabling of the abuse filter and full restoration of the [[TestWiki:Administrators|sysop]] and [[TestWiki:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]] permissions. As such, if this proposal passes, they are blocked for thirty (30) calendar days and, if they go the full thirty (30) days, ''without'' [[w:WP:SOCK|sockpuppetry]], they are unblocked by a Consul and their rights restored.

== Request add UploadWizard ==
Also, now that I think about it, I'm not sure what exactly I did to warrant an indefinite block. I made some edits that were disruptive, but they were stoped by the filter. And when I tried to edit in other ways that wouldn't set off the filter, I didn't know what exactly I could test without having the admin powers, but I wanted to show that I can test here without triggering the filter. However, that testing of mine led to an indefinite block being proposed and seemingly supported by everyone, which I just don't feel is warranted yet. I thought that since my disruptive actions were being stopped by the filter, there was no harm if I "slipped up". But I see that I need to show that I have actually changed my behavior, by not setting off the filter in the first place. # I didn't vote on the original proposal because I am interaction-banned with the user who started it, but I am tired of the constant abuse of wiki resources and what don't even really read like mistakes. I got tired of seeing ApexAgunomu abuse page moves, so I edited the filter to prevent them from moving pages other than [[Move test]]. Just minutes later, I got a notification that a filter I recently edited was activated, and the log showed that it blocked ApexAgunomu from moving [[Change content model test]] to [[TestWiki:Change content model test]] (there have been plenty of other moves like moving one page around to templates, categories, talk pages, and moving people's user pages into article space). If eight people supported the ban, with no-one opposed, I think there's a very clear consensus and closing it as unsuccessful on a technicality is overly bureaucratic and a supervote. == How do I delete pages (without requesting administrator) ==
TestWiki has inconsistent requirements for bureaucrats. <br>
Per [[TW:RfP]] - one has to be an '''[[TW:A|Administrator]]''' for at least 24 hours, have at least 10 edits, and be "trustworthy". <br>
On the other hand [[TW:B]] states that the user should be an '''[[TestWiki:Users|User]]''' for at least 24 hours, have at least 10 edits an be "trusted by the community". <br>
Being an user, and an administrator on TW are two different things. From what I can see the RfP's "Admin for at least 24h" requirement is the one enforced, but that doesn't mean that technically it's different from TW:B. Being trustworthy, and trusted by the community can also be interpreted twofold. The second one could mean there should be a consensus, and not just one [[TW:C]] judging that. [[User:Szczot3k|Szczot3k]] ([[User talk:Szczot3k|talk]]) 12:46, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

I'd like to test some things with images, which (I believe) doesn't require being an administrator. The policies say to delete pages after you're done ([[TestWiki:Main policy#Deleting and undeleting pages]], [[TestWiki:Testing policy#Editing and deleting pages]]), but trying to do so (e.g. on https://publictestwiki.com/wiki/File:Test.png?action=delete) says "The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Administrators."

Hello. There's currently an actively ongoing request to block many more proxies globally across all of Miraheze, it's supposed to be done already but in practice hasn't been taken care of that well. There's a new system upcoming designed to block more proxies by using Wikimedia's list. I would like to demo this on test wiki given that 1) it is a test wiki after all 2) there is a huge spam problem here. Any objections? :I don’t believe this is a vote, but I would {{support}} this request. We can test this out here, and if it works we can expand to the rest of Miraheze in time. If not, no skin off our backs. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 19:18, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
:{{Oppose|Strong}} I can not support this, a bot like this should ONLY be ran by a user whom has experience with global permissions on Miraheze, for example current or former CVT, Stewards, sysadmins, ect. A bot of this type has severe consequences if it has to many false positives, one that only those people would have experience handling. I'm requesting consul here on TestWiki. I've been a major contributor here over the past few months, keeping a tab open at all times to the comings and goings of the wiki. I'm familiar with all TestWiki policies and am capable of deploying them when necessary (and also when not to). This can be evidenced by my Meta sysop edits, which is not radically different from a moderation perspective than TestWiki consul. I'm not quick to be the first, I let logic guide my decisions, and when unsure, I seek a second (or third) perspective.
== Consul request ==

If elected consul, I'd also start developing plans for a partial overhaul of the wiki (with community input of course), to see how we can better shape the wiki for the wider Miraheze community, as the current format is quite little known and rarely used by more than a select few. Potentially, we streamline how we organize the wiki, and include it in more documentation pages on Meta as well to make it easier to test features. Additionally, I'd love to put forth an RfF on [[TestWiki:Inactivity|TestWiki:Inactivity policy]]. I'd want to take a particular look at the 3 months inactivity time period, and whether that is still appropriate for the wiki.
Hello, I am asking if I could become a consul or not because I have done a lot of things. [[User:Cigaryno|Cigaryno]] ([[User talk:Cigaryno|talk]]) 17:49, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

The above is just a few ideas I have in mind, but I'd love to be able to expand to more with the community. I welcome any questions or concerns and am more than happy to answer any set forth. [[User:BrandonWM|BrandonWM]] ([[User talk:BrandonWM|talk]] - [[Special:Contributions/BrandonWM|contribs]]) 13:49, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
:Users can become consul after being elected. Your request however is very early and much more experienced and users who have been here for a long time aren't consuls. There are probably enough consuls right now as well so there's not really a need for any more. I'd advise against hat collecting. [[User:Reception123|Reception123]] ([[User talk:Reception123|talk]]) 18:09, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
::I will request in 3-6 weeks. [[User:Cigaryno|Cigaryno]] ([[User talk:Cigaryno|talk]]) 19:49, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
:::I really wouldn’t recommend that. You’d likely need at least 3-6 months of experience, as well as being an extremely trusted member of the community. [[User:BrandonWM|BrandonWM]] ([[User talk:BrandonWM|talk]] - [[Special:Contributions/BrandonWM|contribs]]) 22:22, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
::::Either way, as I say there's really no need for other Consuls right now in my opinion. Consul isn't something you set a 'target date' to become. 1.What do you think about [https://publictestwiki.com/wiki/Special:Log?logid=26611| this action against you]? And as Agent Isai said {{tq|[...] was that you overreacted rather severely so of course, you are exhorted to keep a cool head and to not be so blunt when dealing with things[...]}},do you believe that your behaviour isn't same as it was before? :{{ping|Harvici}} Thank you for the question! Yes, absolutely. That incident occurred near a year and a half ago and I’ve absolutely learned from that mistake. Since then, I’ve become an administrator on Meta, Miraheze’s home wiki (equivalent to consul here), and have a good track record within the community. Those issues were present in the past, but have since not occurred, something I’m very glad about. TL;DR is yes, I fully believe those issues are behind me. [[User:BrandonWM|BrandonWM]] ([[User talk:BrandonWM|talk]] - [[Special:Contributions/BrandonWM|contribs]]) 21:48, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

2. Do you intend to assist with abuse filters that may require enabling restricted actions? [[User:Caimántriste|<b style="font-family:Verdana;color:#008000">''Caimántriste''</b>]] [[User talk:Caimántriste|<b style="color:#355E3B;">talk</b>]] 02:16, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

:I'm happy to assist with abuse filters where I can. My knowledge isn't the best with AF, but I have learned a lot since I was introduced to abuse filters and if requested, yes, I could give it a go and see what happens. Of course, I'd consult with fellow consuls first to ensure everything was in order, but as long as that's the case, I don't see why not. [[User:BrandonWM|BrandonWM]] ([[User talk:BrandonWM|talk]] - [[Special:Contributions/BrandonWM|contribs]]) 02:32, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Recently a user has been evading their topic ban multiple times, without any regard for the seriousness of this and reinforcing why it was made in the first place. I temporarily blocked this user for 3 days, and considered removing their sysop permissions to prevent them from unblocking themself but decided not to because I thought I could trust them not to.

=== Discussion ===
Apparently not, because they ended up unblocking themselves.
''Please feel free to vote using the support, oppose, or abstain templates.''

----
While sysops do have the unblockself permission, my understanding of this is that it is supposed to be because of test blocks by sysops. I certainly don't think it is OK for users to be unblocking themselves as the recipient of actions, and I don't think anyone else would either.
{{support| Strong support}} While going through the contributions of BrandonWM, it looked like he was a problematic user,but during an old conversation, I saw his reply to another user that said, '{{tq|[...] that is the standard set for all, and no one is above it.}} Hence, I certainly believe that he is capable of becoming a consul, and his behaviour isn't the same as it was.With the unexpected resignation of Agent Isai, I think he would be the best candidate. == SVG issue ==
It doesn't appear anyone else has commented on this problem, as due to the recent stepping down of the two most active consuls. The only user who had a chance to review this problem only reviewed the technical aspects of it. As a result, I think the community should make a plan on how to handle this situation.

It seems the SVG features are disabled, because any SVG code I entered appear as plain text. I searched the site but only found [[SVG_test|a blank page]]. Could you enable SVG so I can run some tests? [[User:Spacing form|Spacing form]] ([[User talk:Spacing form|talk]]) 17:41, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
Since there isn't an active community at this time, if there are not any objections from anyone (other than BrandonWM themself) I will reinstate the block as an emergency measure. While I was initially under the impression that this would constitute wheel warring, I realized that the policy generally only applies to other sysops reversing actions, and is not intended to apply to users receiving blocks, and this would almost certainly be considered block evasion by any reasonable person. However, I don't have any plans on how to solve this problem long-term, other than either via removing unblockself from sysops (might cause problems for testing blocks?) or a bot that removes them (depending on who blocked). [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 03:39, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

:Bump... Scrolling up this page, it seems requests of features often go unanswered. To clarify, there's no need to download any new extensions, because Midiawikki has built-in SVG support, as stated on "Manual:Image administration". Hope an admin sees this. ::::: Also, does the community believe BrandonWM's block was valid? I had said before if there were no objections I would reblock them. One user claimed the block was a "clear error" but did not have a convincing case as to why. I think the topic ban violation is clearly verifiable, see [[User_talk:BrandonWM|talk page]] for that, and does not appear to be in error. I would assume by the comments the community agrees it is valid but most people are talking about the problem in general and not this specific case. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 16:28, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
::::::I forgot to mention, that even if admins don't have the right to unblock themselves, if it's a partial block the user isn't considered "blocked" so they can still do it. Probably only removing administrator permission is feasibility. [[User:AlPaD|AlPaD]] ([[User talk:AlPaD|talk]]) 16:35, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
::::::: It's also worth noting that it appears that if you have talk page access on you can also delete and protect your talk page. Also also, a blocked user who is a sysop can still block the person who blocked them, this change is because of compromised sysop accounts. [[User:Naleksuh|Naleksuh]] ([[User talk:Naleksuh|talk]]) 16:40, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
::::::Again, you seem to be ignoring the fact that Void had the hard-line restrictions removed. [[User:BrandonWM|BrandonWM]] ([[User talk:BrandonWM|talk]] - [[Special:Contributions/BrandonWM|contribs]]) 23:40, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
:::::::BrandonWM, you are correct, as per what is clearly stated on your talk page both by myself and Void.
:::::::Everyone else, please check his talk page before jumping to conclusions and give him a break. I regret blocking him. [[User:Kiko4564|Kiko4564]] ([[User talk:Kiko4564|talk]]) 07:41, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
::::::: Void did not remove the restrictions. They removed Kiko4564's block and suggested reducing the restrictions. ''You'' are ignoring the fact that you violated your topic ban and also unblocked yourself, which is a much more important problem. In addition, a consul has already participated in this discussion and proposed a solution to the problem of users unblocking themself, despite Kiko4564 pretending it was completely fine for users to do that as long as they themself believe the block was wrong. And even if they were removed, you still violated them prior to that comment. Trying to excuse the fact that you violated the topic ban and also the fact that the edits were disruptive just reinforces why there was a need for a topic ban to have been made in the first place. Requests for Comment[edit]

Hi everyone. Due to the recent influx of Requests for Comment here on TestWiki, I have created a separate page for them at TestWiki:Requests for Comment. I have also moved two RfCs from here to there. You are all invited to comment on them, they are TestWiki:Requests for Comment/Proposals (proposed by Naleksuh) and TestWiki:Requests for Comment/Amending Consul policy (proposed by BrandonWM). Thank you! Agent Isai Talk to me! 07:20, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

First off, two is not an "influx". Second, you shouldn't have just started moving other people's comments without a discussion or at least a delay. Maybe I'll move your comment to Talk:Rollback test next? Naleksuh (talk)
If it were on topic for the page and are more appropriate for there, yes, are they though? No. Agent Isai Talk to me! 16:32, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Improvements to Test Wiki[edit]

Proposed new TestWiki logo (from above RfC discussion)[edit]

The RfC for a new logo was recently closed with the rational: This does not really define what any such logo to replace the current logo would look like so unsuccessful. I personally liked the previous logo, but just thought it needed a little updating. Please voice your opinion on this logo that I have made. LC Developer (talk)

Closure of consul vote with no input...[edit]

Hey @Dmehus, closure of a Consul election in just under a week with no input from anyone beyond the original nominator seems a bit... unorthodox. I only just happened to see the request today, in fact.

Admittedly I'm not the closest follower of testwiki history, but looking through archives I can't find any other example of comparably brisk/limited input handling for advanced rights aside from speedy closures due to unanimous opposition.

Is there a particular policy/precedent you're using in making this close?

NotAracham (talk) 06:05, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'd also like to see the closure overturned. I don't believe other consuls were notified, there was no site notice, etc.
I don't think a lack of response can be assumed consensus.
I'm also not convinced had I had the opportunity to vote that I would have supported. RhinosF1 (talk) 06:25, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I too would like to see this overturned, this was a unilateral decision that was decided by a single person with no input from other consuls at all. Zppix (Meta | talk to me) 06:51, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello! I'd like to thank you all for your input, about closing I'd like to say that whether the proposal is reopened or not and whether I'm consul or not in the end I'll continue to help out on TestWiki and improve my flaws. Even if the closure of the proposal is not reverted, I would like to hear your opinion, even informally, on whether I should become a consul and what I should correct. AlPaD (talk) 07:14, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I agree with @AlPaD that a more of informal approach should occur next. I’m not sure why all 3 of you are waiting till a few hours after closing to bring this up, when you should’ve voted originally. I’ve messaged @Dmehus on Discord informing him of this discussion. Globe (talk) 11:19, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As mentioned, I literally just found out this existed yesterday when I came back into cell reception. It's a holiday weekend for many in the US, so several folks in the conversation may have been outside internet service for the last few days like myself.
Regardless of reasons/AlPaD's qualifications, I don't personally find that expedited closure with one vote and no consultation with other consuls reflects the 'community consensus' defined in the appointment criteria, but it's not my place to make that call - I simply wanted to raise it as a concern.
--NotAracham (talk) 14:51, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
NotAracham, thank you for your question. The discussion was open for a week. If I had concerns about the nominee, I would not have closed and would have expressed a view. I did take care into ensuring it was compliant with the current policies and, in particular, in terms of precedents, I followed this Consul request, which Void closed as successful. As with this request, it, too, had only a single participant other than the nominee. Even in my close, I even borrowed and varied Void's wording. Dmehus (talk) 13:42, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for taking the time to reply, Doug. I would note that in the case you reference, the request was held open for the better part of 2.5 months before closure, though is otherwise essentially on-par.
Testwiki's understandably an odd one since folks aren't (for the most part) daily users, hopefully we can come up with some better ways to get community engagement on consequential RfConsulships that reflect the intent of 'community consensus' going forward.
--NotAracham (talk) 14:56, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
1 week is not enough time. Please reopen the discussion and allow further commentary. RhinosF1 (talk) 17:00, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
While I am definitely involved here, I’d oppose a re-opening of the discussion. In my opinion, 1 week is enough time to comment. If you miss that, it’s on you. Globe (talk) 17:02, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
TestWiki is not a wiki where it's core community are always active. As far as I know, this wasn't advertised prominently. We can't always be checking every discussion page. RhinosF1 (talk) 18:33, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Still doesn’t excuse the fact you never discussed with other consuls before closing a discussion with so few participants. 1 person does not a consensus make. Zppix (Meta | talk to me) 17:48, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don’t think a consul discussion has ever been required to close. If policy says different, please link said policy. In addition, 3 people (not one) supported.
  1. The candidate (@AlPaD)
  2. The nominator (@Globe)
  3. The closer (@Dmehus)
Globe (talk) 18:21, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The candidates opinion of themselves is irrelevant. I don't think it's a codified policy but we would strongly encourage it. It's quite frankly just good manners to ask the others if they had anything to raise. The existing consuls are not exactly a large group. I will make the point of order that this isn't the first request to have one of Doug's closes on this wiki overturned and he also was forced to resign Steward or be removed due to concerns around supervoting. Request add UploadWizard[edit]

Hello. Sometime I want to upload multiple files. UploadWizard is very convenient for me. How about adding it on TestWiki and Miraheze? Hurohukidaikon (talk) 00:33, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oauth install[edit]

CAN you install Oauth extension.Is for test my new bot for vikidia. Thanks Rafdodo (talk) 18:36, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

OAuth is under the purview of SRE and enabling an entirely new extension (from what I can tell, this seems to be a request for that) is not within purview of this wiki. BrandonWM (talk - contribs) 02:00, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request for comment (common sense page needed)[edit]

This wiki need Project:Common sense page.

About wikipedia have this page, wikipedia is unvisitable in China. Gongxiang01 (talk) 04:40, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There's absolutely no need for this page here. BrandonWM (talk - contribs) 01:59, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But rules have it. Gongxiang01 (talk) 12:00, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How do I delete pages (without requesting administrator)[edit]

I'd like to test some things with images, which (I believe) doesn't require being an administrator. The policies say to delete pages after you're done (TestWiki:Main policy#Deleting and undeleting pages, TestWiki:Testing policy#Editing and deleting pages), but trying to do so (e.g. on https://publictestwiki.com/wiki/File:Test.png?action=delete) says "The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Administrators."

Do I have to request for admin before carrying out my tests (or, I suppose during or after if I get it fast enough), or is there a way to mark pages for deletion and/or delete pages independently without admin?

- BlankEclair (talk) 13:14, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@BlankEclair: According to the permissions list, non-admin users cannot delete pages themselves. --78Meow (Talk) 10:12, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So what should I do to clean up after myself? Do I need to request admin or is there somewhere I can go to to request deleting pages? BlankEclair (talk) 08:19, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You can also simply add {{delete|reason}} to the page. Globe (talk) 17:51, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

SVG issue[edit]

It seems the SVG features are disabled, because any SVG code I entered appear as plain text. I searched the site but only found a blank page. Could you enable SVG so I can run some tests? Spacing form (talk) 17:41, 28 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bump... Scrolling up this page, it seems requests of features often go unanswered. To clarify, there's no need to download any new extensions, because Midiawikki has built-in SVG support, as stated on "Manual:Image administration". Hope an admin sees this.
