In fact, I was trying to resolve an errant bug with the <code>translate</code> tags displaying on this interface message in Firefox but not Chromium-based web browsers. I even went to the trouble of receiving temporary <code>sysop</code> and <code>translation administrator</code> rights on Test Wikipedia to try and resolve the bug. For clarity, those tags did not show up on Test Wikipedia in the tests I performed. Separately, though, my understanding is removing pages from the translation system is discouraged, presumably, because FuzzyBot does not remove the translation pages and subpages. So, my preference would've been to have deleted the translation subpages and let FuzzyBot do its work. Dmehus (talk) 01:43, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

:::::MacFan4000 Yeah, that's what I was wondering. Is that still allowed and/or MediaWiki/Wikimedia-endorsed? Ideally, it would be nice to have all interface translations done through translatewiki.net, including custom page messages for specific wikis as a subpage of <code>wikiname</code>, I think. I personally don't love the idea of having some language subpages in MediaWiki: namespace and having the Translate extension controlling the translation subpages outside of that namespace. Translation[edit]

I removed this from translation, because the translate system doesn't work for interface pages, interface pages already have there own translation system (the same language subpages), and when you see the message in use you see the raw translate tags. The same subpages are used for interface message translation. See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Localisation#Message_sources for info. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 02:49, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

All it is is that if your user language is set to es for example, when you go to create a new page, you will see whatever is on MediaWiki:Newarticletext/es unless /es subpage doesn't exist in which case it would default to the English version.
