Should we use archive subpages here? Naleksuh (talk) 00:15, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Naleksuh: While I'm not opposed to continuing to use archive subpages until they reach a certain page size, I would say I'm maybe slightly more partial to the permalink archive method or, perhaps even better, to redoing the preload we use for a new bot request such that it creates a subpage in the name of the bot's username. See Test Wikipedia's permissions page for an example of what I mean. What do you think about either of those options? Dmehus (talk) 01:35, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I would think that using the archive subpages is more in line with how it's done in other places on TestWiki. Naleksuh (talk) 07:30, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Naleksuh: Yes, it certainly would be more consistent, but TestWiki:Bot approval requests is a bit of a different user group in several ways. For one thing, a bot's approval may be modified, potentially more than once, so strictly archiving the request in the traditional manner may be undesirable. For another consideration, a bot's approval may be later withdrawn, revoked, or even transferred to another bot or operator. Finally, historically, a bot archived TestWiki:Request permissions, but it hasn't operated here in several years. That could certainly change. So, yeah, those would just be some of my reasons for wanting to try something different here. In any case, we've probably got time on our side here, as there's only two approved bot requests on this page, and neither is currently operating. So, we have time to think this over some more. There are three requests though. Unless you are counting my two requests as a single request? In any case, I think that stuff can simply be archived once it is thought that the discussion is over, and a new one is created if it is thought that it isn't the case. I don't think we need an elaborate system like English Wikipedia has. Naleksuh (talk) 03:17, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Naleksuh: Okay, let me think on this. As it turns out, I asked –revi on Discord about possibly reactivating Revibot on TestWiki. They're on board with that, and said to remind them in the next week to set it up. So, yeah, I guess we could probably keep the archiving system consistent and just let the bot handle it.
