Bureaucrat in user Example

9
Summary by Dmehus

Various unrelated follow up questions related to the Translate extension ensued, but primary question was to removing the bureaucrat bit from User:Example. Anton advised that though this is not a common test, it's a reasonable test action, and so they did the correct thing requesting removal of the bureaucrat bit from a current Consul, and advised to see Special:ListGroupRights#bureaucrat of groups they can add and remove.

Hi! I tried to give Example the rights of a bureaucrat and administrator and I succeeded, but now the rights of a bureaucrat remain ... I can't remove them from Example, so could you steward do it? Apologies for this .. :D

Anton You did the right thing by testing with Special:UserRights on User:Example, but for mainly technical reasons, only Consuls can revoke the bureaucrat bit from users, so, while this is an uncommon occurrence of bureaucrats granting the bureaucrat bit to User:Example, this is a reasonable test per TestWiki:Testing policy, and so, you did the correct thing by requesting a current Consul to remove the bit from the user in question. As such, this is now  done. Thank you for your notification!

As a procedural point of clarification, a Steward would only be involved on TestWiki if either (a) all local Consuls were inactive for a significant period of time or (b) there was a request from the community that could only be effected technically by a Steward. Hope that helps.

Do you mean there are too few consuls on TestWiki? What rights do they have then? Are they just granted for that, for example, to me? Today, I have otherwise been active in the community MirahezianI did translations from morning until evening, and now I have been following, inter alia, Community noticeboard. I helped a user with his problem and he got it fixed. I feel like my activities in Miraheze have got off to a really nice start!

Anton Yes, your early translations on Meta have been constructive so far, from what I've seen. You may also want to review the translation administrator guidelines (on Meta Wiki), follow those guidelines, and set up a temporary page in your own userspace here on TestWiki, preparing it for translation. Ensure when you are done that you complete the deletion of all translation subpages and translation units before removing it from the translation system.

As to whether there are too few Consuls, I would say we have about the right number at the moment, though I do concede that some are quite or relatively inactive. It's largely only myself, Reception123, and Void that are active of late, though even Void would probably acknowledge his activity on TestWiki has largely been related to his Steward duties (i.e., global renames, etc.). Generally speaking, Consuls are like the non-test bureaucrats and administrators of TestWiki. Anyone can request to be a Consul at TestWiki:Community portal, but unlike the other rights, it does require a community vote. The community generally wants to see both a need and significant activity (both log actions and editing contributions).

One other possibility is that you may want to consider requesting local interwiki administrator on TestWiki. I recently created the local user group documentation page. Officially, it does require a local vote at TestWiki:Community portal, but there are no other local community-approved policy requirements. Thus, as long as you meet the prerequisites (whether locally or globally) and abide by the global policy, this may be something you'd be interested in for the purposes of experimentation and knowledge acquisition

Yes, I would like to be Meta Miraheze’s translation administrator and wiki creator and I try to garner users ’trust in it. I also noticed there Community noticeboard that have come reports from users, which would require Administrator rights on the wiki and thought that sometimes I could ask also those rights. About translation maintenance:

I will then mark my user subpage (Anton / Test) for translation and then delete it. I have the Translate extension on my own wiki and I can mark pages for translation.S

Can you say when will I get translation administrator rights? And was it only after a week or two that I could get the rights of a wiki creator?

I marked the page User:Anton/Test for translation and made the translation into Finnish, starting from English. That said, I have held the marking of pages to be translated :) Now I'm certainly proved my monitor how the technology works? I’m looking forward to someday becoming a wiki creator and creating wikis. I've been following an active farmer log Page and held what requests should reject and what to accept.

That's all good. Though it seems fine that you nuked the pages, best practice for deleting translation pages is to let FuzzyBot process and handle it.
