Request permissions on TestWiki

Welcome to Miraheze's TestWiki! This page is for requesting testing permissions (Administrator/Bureaucrat) for TestWiki.

Tips for a successful request:

  • Be sure to replace Requested right with the actual user right you are requesting. You will see what we are referring to once you tap on the blue 'Request permissions' button at the bottom of this pink box.

Important notes

  • Make sure to read our policies before making any request, especially the main policy and the testing policy, and remember to revert and undo all your tests once you're done.
  • Administrator user right may be granted to any logged in user, but it may also be revoked for inappropriate use.
  • Bureaucrat user right will only be granted to a user who has been an administrator for 24 hours, who has at least 10 edits, and who has been deemed trustworthy.
  • Specific user rights like CheckUser and Oversight will never be given, due to the access to sensitive private information.
  • For confirmed user and autopatrolled rights, you can assign it to yourself if you are an administrator (though you can request those user groups here if you do not require and do not want the sysop tools).
  • For consul rights, that should be requested at the community portal, and gain a clear community consensus for that right to be granted. Consul is a very high-trust role and is rarely granted.

Done Remember to be patient. Please ensure you follow our policies, especially TestWiki:Testing policy and TestWiki:Main policy, reverting every test administrative action in the reverse order performed. As a best practice, test blocks should be done on User:Example or yourself. Agent Isai Talk to me! 20:45, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, thanks for accepting my request and for the information. I apologize if I came off as impatient, I just wanted to make sure I did all the requirements, and the page was a little unclear on whether I should apply at one or both places. LC Developer (Bureaucrat)

  • Requested group/permission: Bureaucrat
  • Reason for requesting: I would like to continue testing the tools as a Bureaucrat. I also would like to grant other users the rights they need/want to test and learn on here. I am familiar with the policies surrounding bureaucratship, adminship, and TestWiki in general. I have not abused my admin rights and am very active in this community. I have met the 10-edit requirement (I have about 50) and the 24hr requirement.

LC Developer (talk) 18:12, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bureaucrat is normally granted to established users only. I have no issues with this request but I'd like to wait a little longer before granting. Agent Isai Talk to me! 19:46, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Agent Isai: I understand, but I would like to test with crat permissions and grant new users administrator permissions. I am somewhat established, and am very active here. I am also an admin and crat on my home wiki. Is there anything I can do/answer that would make you feel more comfortable?
In addition, I sometimes see edits with permissions being granted tagged with Tag:userRightsManagerTW. If granted crat rights, how do I install the gadget? LC Developer (talk) 19:57, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Some of the changes you have mad were useful but I would like to avoid granting bureaucrat now as it has not been that long and I have had to revert a lot of the changes (for example, protecting a MediaWiki page at sysop level even though non-sysops can't edit it anyway). There should be no issue with granting it eventually but not yet Naleksuh (talk) 20:02, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Naleksuh: Okay, I completely understand. I need to learn a little more before gaining this right. What do you mean by eventually? A few hours, days, weeks, months, years? LC Developer (talk) 20:05, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Firstly, editing a message to add a ping will not ping smoeone. See w:template:ping fix for more info. Second, I meant more like a week or so rather than months/years. It's not considered a high-trust role like consul is, but not something to grant very readily Naleksuh (talk) 20:15, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for the information about pinging. I will reapply in about a week and once I have gained more experience. LC Developer (talk) 20:27, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I would discourage requesting these rights in the immediate future not because you haven't filled a time bar, but because you have a fair few bits to work out in really understanding and applying TestWiki's scope. Frankly you seem quite new to the interface, and needing to be reviewed extensively because of this is not encouraging for bureaucrat nor is it something that resolves itself in just a week. Be more established perhaps, work out the quirks before considering the role. Two days doesn't really cut established/active and having a wiki is not pertinent. I should also note that even with crat you should not be closing central community discussions as evidently happened just a little while ago: that is the purview of a Consul. It's avoiding things like this which demonstrate understanding, more than having just read the text of policy, and it's how you get the trust which is the other aspect of requesting bureaucrat. --Raidarr (talk) 01:18, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello @Raidarr and thank you for the advice. I will only apply for crat in the future once I have understood more about the software and processes of TestWiki, absolutely no less than 1 week from now. I will work out the quirks before considering the role. As for closing the RfC, I apologize, I was unaware that only consuls could close them, as I had seen other, non-consuls close them, and I couldn’t find anywhere that said they could only be closed by consuls. I will not do this in the future. Again, thank you for the feedback, and have a great day! LC Developer (talk) 01:39, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What exactly do you want to test? Agent Isai Talk to me! 14:22, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I want to help do permission requests mainly. I also want to be able to grant more permissions too.Elijah Wilder (talk) 12:56, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Agent Isai: Hello! According to the policy the user meets the criteria for bureaucrat flag. Do you agree to grant the rights? AlPaD (talk) 11:52, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't know if the trustworthy criterion can be fulfilled. Do you vouch for this user in that aspect? Agent Isai Talk to me! 11:56, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Until now we have approved user requests with more than 10 edits that have been for at least 24 hours admins and have not caused any problem in the past. Are there any other criteria to be considered trustworthy? AlPaD (talk) 12:03, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Agent Isai and @AlPaD: I don't really care about the outcome of this request, but I believe the user to be trustworthy. They are active on other test wikis as crats and haven't abused the rights. LC Developer (talk) 12:13, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Our sandbox also automatically clears, but you can make a sandbox that doesn't clear in your own userspace both on Wikipedia and here. Nor do you really need sysop tools for that. Naleksuh (talk) 16:22, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Rafdo, as @Naleksuh said above, you don't need sysop tools to have a sandbox that doesn't clear. You can use your Sandbox by clicking the link. As you have not responded, I am marking this request as Not done. If for some other reason you would like Administrator rights, feel free to make a new request with valid reasoning. LC Developer (talk) 12:01, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I already marked the request as not done, and the template doesn't support more than one person. Naleksuh (talk) 06:13, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

LC Developer (Bureaucrat)

  • Requested group/permission: Bureaucrat
  • Reason for requesting: It has been about a week since I last requested crat rights here. I would like them to continue my testing, and to be able to grant other users the rights they need to test. For a sake of transparency, My last request was declined with the comments:

I have no issues with this request but I'd like to wait a little longer before granting -Agent

There should be no issue with granting it eventually but not yet -Naleksuh

I believe I am now ready for crat rights. I now have over 100 edits and am much more familiar with the scope of TestWiki. I have also been doing more simple, general improvement edits, such as rewording confusing statements. As a potential crat, I understand when and when not to grant rights to other users.

Thanks, LC Developer (talk) 17:01, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not sure if this is relevant, but I am an Admin and crat on testwiki.wiki. LC Developer (talk) 17:03, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Why did you mark a request as declined that was already marked as declined, and also do so as a non-bureaucrat? Naleksuh (talk) 06:13, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello @Naleksuh. I marked the request as declined because it appears you forgot to. In this diff you declined the request with a comment, but forgot to change the status to declined. I just wanted to help you, and TestWiki by declining the request for you, as it was clear you forgot. I first added my name (for some reason, I don’t know why), but then I changed it to both our names, as I was the one that was making the edit, and you were the one that declined it. Maybe I shouldn’t have done it because I wasn’t a crat, but I was just trying to help you out. LC Developer (talk) 10:42, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
For a sake of transparency, relevant discussion on this request occurred at User talk:Agent Isai. LC Developer (talk) 11:03, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Administrator granted. Bureaucrat isn't really used a lot for testing so I'm not going to grant it at this moment but if you continue to help out here then we can consider that. Thanks! Agent Isai Talk to me! 19:02, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Agent Isai as far as I’m aware, if you have rights removed for inactivity, you get the rights that you used to have restored. I did previously use the Bureaucrat right, so would it be possible to get the right back? Thanks, Zippybonzo (talk) 19:32, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Reason for requesting: After numerous edits on my part, I would like to apply for bureaucratic rights in order to be able to optimise my work... This request can be processed when its time comes (if one understands).

Justman (talk) 22:26, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Done Please continue to make sure you are following all policies and know that bureaucrat is, ultimately, a more senior, trusted testing permission. Ultimately, Consuls are the de facto non-test administrators on TestWiki and they, together with the community at TestWiki:Community portal, guide this wiki. If granting permissions, please try and link to the diff page of the given user's request when granting rights, and only grant rights upon request. • Requested group/permission: Administrator
  • Reason for requesting: I will regularly be active on the TestWiki and will be helping to keep the wiki up and running, including granting permissions requests. I have been an administrator and bureaucrat previously, which is why I am requesting both bits at once and not just sysop. However, if I am asked to obtain sysop for 24 hours before crat, I am happy to oblige.

BrandonWM (talk - contribs) 21:27, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Good job getting your editing restrictions lifted! You deserve this. LC Developer (talk) 21:29, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Deferred Due to the reason for the removal of rights, this time it is better for a consul to take over, but I support the restoration of the user's rights. AlPaD (talk) 06:48, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Granted sysop. I would not recommend granting bureaucrat at least for now in case something goes wrong. Also the canvassing and edit warring issues still are not resolved. Naleksuh (talk) 07:09, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You mean because he's already been thrown out three times? Yikes? Justman (talk) 11:25, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Justman: I am going to remind you of the Global Conduct Policy. Conduct like the message above is not appropriate for Miraheze's platforms. Thank you. BrandonWM (talk - contribs) 13:58, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As already mentioned in the meta... Justman (talk) 14:29, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
To be honest, I don't really care what was mentioned or where. Conduct like this is completely across the line. It violates the GCP and the VCP. If you find yourself unable to follow these policies, you may relieve yourself of your permissions on Miraheze. That is the standard set for all, and no one is above it. BrandonWM (talk - contribs) 14:42, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And as I said, the answer to which this refers was tied to a real fact! So there is nothing rude about it! It was only a factually related comment or answer Justman (talk) 15:17, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not really sure you fully understand the meaning of the word civility. If you did, you'd know that this isn't it. BrandonWM (talk - contribs) 19:21, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not done per going around previous request. Also looks like you deleted a bunch of pages for a questionable reason. if translations were made for serious reasons they're unnecessary on a process such as testwiki Why are they unnecessary? This is a multilingual project and while I think the MediaWiki translate system is hard to use, it's not like translations are only for "serious" purposes- they exist because 87% of the world does not speak English.
