Request permissions on TestWiki

Welcome to Miraheze's TestWiki! This page is for requesting testing permissions (Administrator/Bureaucrat) for TestWiki.

Tips for a successful request:

  • Be sure to replace Requested right with the actual user right you are requesting. You will see what we are referring to once you tap on the blue 'Request permissions' button at the bottom of this pink box.

Important notes

  • Make sure to read our policies before making any request, especially the main policy and the testing policy, and remember to revert and undo all your tests once you're done.
  • Administrator user right may be granted to any logged in user, but it may also be revoked for inappropriate use.
  • Bureaucrat user right will only be granted to a user who has been an administrator for 24 hours, who has at least 10 edits, and who has been deemed trustworthy.
  • Specific user rights like CheckUser and Oversight will never be given, due to the access to sensitive private information.
  • For confirmed user and autopatrolled rights, you can assign it to yourself if you are an administrator (though you can request those user groups here if you do not require and do not want the sysop tools).
  • For consul rights, that should be requested at the community portal, and gain a clear community consensus for that right to be granted. Consul is a very high-trust role and is rarely granted.

Lava Spire Can you tell me how you found TestWiki, or who referred you to us? Is there any particular aspect you are keen to test? Dmehus (talk) 22:13, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I found this through a Google search for "test wikis" because I was wanting to test things admins can do on wikis like protecting pages, translating pages and blocking users. Lava Spire (talk) 22:15, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Lava Spire Alright. I'm going to grant you sysop rights only for now. Should you wish to test bureaucrat rights, you may apply for that and any Consul only may grant that in there discussion. To make granting bureaucrat more likely, please ensure you create, and delete, a sufficient number of test pages with actual text and messages in the body of the pages, reverting your test page creations in the reverse order performed, of course. Alternatively, if you have an existing Wikimedia account in existence for the past several months, please feel free to create a confirmation edit on a Wikimedia wiki stating your account name on Miraheze. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 22:34, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
All right, will do. Thanks. Lava Spire (talk) 22:38, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Lava Spire noting this very similarly named Wikimedia account, have you ever had any prior Miraheze accounts? I would remind you that you would do well to be upfront, honest, and candid, as honesty is always the best policy. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 22:41, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No, this is my first Miraheze account, and I do not have any Wikimedia accounts. I chose my name based on my favorite level in Super Mario Galaxy, The Sinking Lava Spire. Lava Spire (talk) 23:36, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you. Interesting, that was that user's inspiration for creating their account as well. Dmehus (talk) 23:41, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Done. Please ensure you follow our policies, especially Testing policy and Main policy, reverting every test administrative action in the reverse order performed. As a best practice, test blocks should be done on User:Example or yourself. --Dmehus (talk) 19:58, 19 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done. Please continue to make sure you are following all policies and know that bureaucrat is, ultimately, a more senior, trusted testing permission. Ultimately, Consuls are the de facto non-test administrators on TestWiki and they, together with the community at TestWiki:Community portal, guide this wiki. If granting permissions, please try and link to the diff page of the given user's request when granting rights, and only grant rights upon request. --Dmehus (talk) 19:58, 19 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lava Spire (Bureaucrat)

Lava Spire (talk) 21:04, 19 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not done per my comments in your above request, as I'm not satisfied with the number and quality of your testing edits. If you're able to confirm your Miraheze account from a Wikimedia wiki account in good standing, I'm open to reconsidering this request. Dmehus (talk) 21:07, 19 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't have a Wikimedia account so I guess I will test here more before asking again. Lava Spire (talk) 21:09, 19 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, or you can also test at Test Wiki, as the Special:Nuke feature may be included within the sysop toolbkit, though it may also be within the bureaucrat toolkit. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 21:13, 19 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Requested group/permission: Admin
  • Reason for requesting: To test further privileges with the Flow and WikiForum extensions. Additionally, I would like to test the capabilities of the Translations feature as an Admin. Administrator is also a prerequisite for the Bureaucrat role, and while I have no real need for 'crat at the moment, Admin experience could prove handy if I ever needed the higher permission, not just here but on other wikis as well.

Thank you :) Turtle84375 (talk) 08:28, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not protesting this, but I just want to say that you can test the translation, Flow and Forum extensions without administrator rights. --Anton (talk) 08:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, it's hard to know what Turtle84375 was looking to test, but most likely, they were looking to test certain Flow and WikiForum functions that are only available to the sysop group. Also, we have to remember that this is a TestWiki and sysop is essentially akin to user whereas bureaucrat is akin to autoconfirmed users who are trustworthy. (Credit to Naleksuh for the apt analogy.) Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:27, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Anton and Dmehus: Sorry for seeing this late, yes, I essentially requested Administrator permissions to gain access to certain functions on WikiForum, such as forum creation and finding out what different functions Admins have in the extension, and also to see whether Flow would be good for me to install into one of my wikis, hence the need for me to fully inspect the function of the extension. As for translation, I was looking to see what "Mark for translation" does. I apologize if that wasn't too clear. Turtle84375 (talk) 03:14, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
